In Atlanta, Georgia on November 11th Never Mind Magazine attended The Dichotomy Tour at The Roxy. Kushner was accompanied by opener Henrik, a Folk artist. Henrik quickly won over the crowd with his similar indie sound. The audience ranging from young girls to older men, the crowd was united by the majority dressed in red/maroon and black variants to celebrate the album’s cover art that features a blurry/ distorted portrait of Kushner.
When Kushner appeared on stage the crowd erupted with screams, he began the show with some of his most popular hits such as “Poison” and “Skin and Bones”. The unique lighting design matched the intensity of the songs with LED strips on concrete-looking pillars that created a truly dynamic stage presence in addition to Kusher’s. He then transitioned into some songs from his first album Footprints in the Sand that include some of his more emotional songs like “Mr.Forgettable”, which he prefaced with a story about his grandfather who had Alzheimer’s, which inspired the song with lyrics like “There’s been a
hundred times, When I don’t recognize, Any of you that love me”. He also shared the story of when he decided to finally leave home and take the leap to do music full time, encouraging the audience to believe in yourself in times of the unknown, which everyone can resonate with facing a time in your life where you have to take a leap of faith. Kushner shared, "I had this crippling fear of the unknown... starting something new you're not sure how it's going to go and it just kills you inside it really really scares you. That's what I wrote this next song about the idea that if this music thing works out great if it doesn't great." Not only is Kushner vulnerable in his song-writing but he also has a level of transparency on stage that especially his younger fans can, not only relate to but can find a role model in.
The show was paced incredibly well with about a run time around 2 hours and a half. With only 30 minutes in between opener and headliner creating a true sense of satisfaction as the show ended. David Kushner truly is one to watch as he continues to make music you can feel in your soul. Be sure to catch him on the remaining Dichotomy Tour dates.
